HEART PATIENTS NEED MORE LAUGHTER

Previous research has pinpointed some of the ways in which laughter reduces the body’s stress level. New research shows that those who need laughter the most may have it the least.

Researchers at the University of Maryland Medical Center studied the laughter habits of heart disease patients and compared their findings with people with healthy hearts. They found that those with diseased hearts had a much poorer laughter profile than did the healthy people. The heart patients laughed less often and less intently than their healthy counterparts. Instead, they showed greater hostility and anger.

We find laughter and cheer recommended in the Bible also. In Proverbs 15 it says, "A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance." Ecclesiastes 8 tells us, "A man hath no better thing under the sun than to eat and drink and to be merry for that shall abide with him all the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun." The Epistle of James tucks balance in for us with, "Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any merry? Let him sing psalms."

Today we have a place for both: Celebrations with success in our Olympics and prayer for those in earthquake zones.

Perhaps laughter is indeed the best medicine after all, and adding a prayer for those in need.

ALMONDS FOR ALAZHEIMER'S

Researchers at the University of Illinois in Chicago treated mice that had Alzheimer’s-like disease by giving them a diet rich in almonds. According to a report given at the annual meeting of the Society of Neuroscience, the mice showed a significance increase in their ability to remember how to run their puzzle mazes. Analysis of the mice’s brains also showed a significant reduction in the amount of Alzheimer’s deposits in their brain tissue.

The researchers speculated that the effect is due to substances within almonds that act like cholinesterase inhibitors, drugs that are used to treat Alzheimer’s. They doubted that almonds alone could cure full-fledged Alzheimer’s in humans, but thought the regular intake of almonds could help prevent the development of the disease.

PLACEBO EFFECT DISCOVERED IN BRAIN

The “placebo effect” where a sugar pill has as much healing effectiveness as the real thing is purely a matter of the power of suggestion. Today, however, scientists who have access to brain imagine techniques are discovering that the placebo effect is active in the brain.

In one study, reported in a Washington Post article summarizing such research, PET scans of the brains of patients who were told they were receiving pain-killing injections showed the brain excreting more endorphins into the body than when patients were told they were receiving a neutral injection.

In another study, involving patients with Parkinson’s disease, researchers found the neural firing responsible for tremors decreased following the administration of a placebo. If the placebo was administered covertly, without the patient’s knowledge, there was no difference in nerve firing.

An interesting flip side to this research: Alzheimer’s patients seem to have a significantly reduced placebo effect. Researchers speculate that is because of the damage to that part of the brain that can comprehend and anticipate relief. Without the anticipation of expected benefit, no placebo effect can be initiated.

KINDNESS QUALIFIED

I receive a magazine called “Open Road" l-866-ECC-8209 (322-8209) that often includes articles penned by Harvey A. Green of Kailua, Hawaii. This time his column is entitled “The Meaning of Life.” I’ll include a Website at the end of this Blog to whisper a few of his words that shine with gems. Indeed, if we put them into practice the whole world would change and wars would cease.

“If we look for the meaning of life,” Harvey says, “then we must look toward that from which it springs. If we do not find compassion at the center, perhaps it is a sign that we are looking in the wrong place. We all have equal amounts accessible to us, but have placed various obstacles in our way. Anyone who can remember the experience of a connection with boundless compassion can experience a first hand knowledge of its quality. The more we use kindness the greater will be the flow of living waters through each of us. From compassion will inevitably flow the Christ life. We might prefer that life would be more complicated than this so we could justify our own neglect. God has placed the meaning of life in earth within easy reach of us all. In all things, above all things, let us just be kind, one to another. In such an activity we will awaken compassion to such a degree that the “rivers of living water” will flow from each of us. Then, like with our loving Jesus we will be a source of life, channels of blessings to all of those we meet.” Quote from “Open Road Spring 2010.”

HIS STORY - FINDING A JOB

Certificates from College earned brought me no job and so I learned
To scan the classified each day and found some jobs with tiny pay.
My sweetheart waited in the wings, she was my Queen and I her King.
We waited still another year, heard wedding bells, and felt no fear.

At Budget Rentals cleaning cars, I’d work anywhere but bars.
With every job new skills I learned. Ski hills in fall small wages earned.
As cashier my queen did her part, my lovely wife with kindly heart.
I found a job at Booster Juice, by the hour – two drinks to boot.

Theatre popcorn - sugar drinks, wondering what the dentists think,
Price of water was the same, altogether quite a game,
We passed around a smile to all, like at a Cinderella ball.
Kindness has its own return, though dollars sometimes hard to earn.

Evening hours I studied more, then at a bank – found open doors.
Night office cleaning helped pay rent, planned a family, were content.
For mortgage, we have qualified, strict budgeting we would abide.
Three years - then our first baby came, we had already picked her name.

A budget and no smokes or drinks helped me find a brand new link.
A great new job has come my way, great boss with others - happy days,
My wife and children welcome me, try any job – this is the key.
Great family and work I love, with prayers and thanks to God above.

Thanks Grandma for interviewing me.

Spring is Coming

TIME FOR THE FINAL DECISION

“Here are the two files you requested,” the executive secretary said as she placed two files on the desk for a final choice to be made. “I am in favour of this one,” said the CEOs assistant,” as he pushed one folder across the desk for the CEO to review. “She is imposing, statuesque, beautiful, carries herself with confidence and has kindness written on her face.” The picture on the folder displayed a pleasant young woman, perhaps even eager to be helpful to their clients. The other file followed the first one across the desk. This showed an older woman, likely with more experience in the field of Nutrition.

The CEO pondered both pictures and then opened the two files. “These women are the same age,” he said with puzzlement as he noted the long blonde hair that draped upon the shoulders of the younger appearing one. “This one has an identical twin that may be able to stand in for her sister in the event we require someone to attend a Symposium in the future at such time as we still need to have one here,” said the assistant.

“You have a good thought,” replied the CEO, but I think we will have to go with the older appearing one. Our country is in a ‘Diabetic emergency’ and will require a firm hand to guide them. “Many of our patients are on the edge, facing the door with a sign that says, ‘Diabetics.’ Once they walk through that door they will find there is no door knob on the other side to retreat to.” Some will find it too difficult to open their new book that reveals the glycemic index of every food they face whether at home or when eating in a restaurant. Restaurant foods also contain too much salt, and I should add the heavier solid fats contained in many meats. Diabetics must watch weight gain very carefully. They are among the first patients to require the amputation of toes and even legs. Already our health system has said it is overburdened as they assist patients to face the possibilities waiting in their futures. We will have to go with the older one unless the twin is willing to go with a more mature hairdo.

AFTERLIFE ENCOUNTERS ARE THERAPEUTIC

“Whether real or imagined, paranormal beliefs enhance mental health.” So concludes Diane Arcangel, former director of the Elizabeth Kubler-Ross Center in Houston, in her book, “Afterlife Encounters (Hampton Roads), which describes the results of her five-year international survey with regard to encounters with those who have passed on. Based upon analysis of the responses of almost l,000 individuals, 59 of whom reported having such encounters, she has found that “simply believing in the hereafter is life enhancing. Experiencing an afterlife encounter is a significant element for transcending loss. It, furthermore, offers a leap forward to enlightenment.”

Research on the international facilitation of such encounters has been reported by Allan L. Botkin, Psy.D., in his book “Induced After Death Communication: A New Therapy for Healing Grief and Trauma (Hampton Roads).” His method involves using eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). To use this method to induce communication with a deceased loved one, Dr. Botkin asks the patient to experience the grief of the loss of this person while rhythmically performing eye movements to the left and right while focusing on this troubling feeling. The author has compiled the research on his new approach to bereavement counseling at http://induced-adc.com.

My husband’s father had a heart attack and seemed to be recovering. Then he came in a dream and with great emphasis in his voice said, “It is all true, there is an afterlife and it is wonderful here.” He repeated these words twice. In the morning we received the call confirming that he had indeed passed on. When my mother-in-law passed on two years later, a dream forewarned us of the event. In the dream she was sitting at a table with a group of others whose faces were misty. We had invited her to visit us while we were living in Hawaii. In the dream she was enthusiastically waving at us and said “Florence (her daughter) and I cannot come after all and here everything is so beautiful. An early morning call confirmed the event of her transition.

THE GAME

“Auntie, we have a class to attend this weekend, will you stay here with our children?” I am always glad to watch over your well behaved children I tell them. The next weekend I am busy with my new charges when my husband calls from home and says surprise visitors have arrived at our place, Uncle Fred and Aunt Gerty. There is plenty of room for them I tell him, but bring them for an afternoon visit and they’ll be able to enjoy the visit and together keep us well entertained.

We are having tea together which includes my usual dried fruit squares and triangles. I no longer punch them out into small circular pieces to be sure they don’t get stuck in the throat on the way down. But Ms. K has found one in the bowl and I see it going in her mouth. What is the best way to get it back before it causes problems, I ask myself. Be casual and ask to see it I tell myself. I think children tune into our hearts before the information is sent to the brain. “Make it a game,” Uncle Fred says. His usually very persuasive ways are not working. Ms. K knows she has center stage and is not giving it up easily. Her next in line (and very responsible brother) clearly senses our concern. I am thinking to change the scene, maybe go for a ride and stick around near the emergency hospital. Aunt Gerty is silent and abiding her firm yet sweet angelic way. Then she agrees and chairs begin to be pushed back to show a sense of movement. Ms K realizes a change is in the works and the game is over. She turns to her brother and gives him a smile and a gentle poke on his bare tummy. She releases the round fruit candy that is beginning to melt. I instantly place it in the trash and check the dried fruit candy bag very carefully. Uncle Fred laughs heartily and says, “That girl knows what life is about and how to handle it.” That evening things become quiet and I check each child. Brother L is not in his bed. I search every room and glance outside and up the wide cement drive. I begin to empty every closest. Behind some boxes, there he is, sound asleep. It was a big day. His Mom told me later that when he needs some privacy he has been known to find a quiet place to hide and falls asleep.

BRAIN HAS INTUITION SWITCH

Every 90 minutes or so, your intuition switches on automatically, says Dr. Laurie Nadel in her book Sixth Sense: Unlocking Your Ultimate Mind Power (ASJA Press/iUniverse). If you keep a log for several days, you can track these windows when your attention shifts from your left to your right brain as part of as part of a mind/body overhaul known as the “ultradian window.”

Symptoms include: difficulty concentrating or focusing, spaciness, and feeling sleepy. The author says, “This is the best time to meditate since your intuition is switched on.”

Another way to detect this shift is to test which nostril is more open and passing more air. More air will be passing through the left nostril when the right brain is more active.

This must be the reason a person feels tired some afternoons when there is no other good reason for it to happen.

CARING FOR OUR PETS HEALS YOURSELF

Past research has shown the healing power of pets. Research at Stanford University has suggested that this healing power actually derives from the unconditional love and care with which the owners treat their pets, not the other way around.

Dr. Manvic Dizon believes that the link is the healthy impact of altruistic behaviour. In one of her studies, she found that prisoners who cared for pets showed increases in self-esteem, honesty, and ability to empathize. In another study, reported in Spirituality and Health, elderly patients given a parakeet to care for showed improved mental health.

THE HEALING ENERGY OF JOY IN HAITI

Joy and laughter are so important in the whole experience of healing according to Dr. Gladys Taylor McGarey, the daughter of medical doctors who were missionaries in India. Dr. McGarey has carried on in America for more than half a century.

A pioneer in holistic medicine, Gladys Taylor McGarey M.D., M.D. (H) writes a column Venture Inward Magazine. She explains: “Joy and laughter are so important in the whole experience of healing. Joy is not found in superficial pleasures, which can be pleasant and help us get through some hard times, but true joy is deeper than that – it does not look to things on the outside to give us joy, but comes from the inner experiencing of the at-one-ment of body, mind and spirit. It is important to understand that to be joyous does not mean there will not be times of sadness or depression. Life is full of mountaintops and valleys. We go through the valley so that the mountaintop experiences can help us through the work that is done in the valley. Life would be very dull and bland if we did not have our ups and downs, good times and hard times, our mountains and our valleys. It has been said that hard jobs are done by those who can, impossible jobs are done by those who care, and transforming jobs are done by those who are committed. Joy comes from being present in the moment, so that in the very experiencing of them we are transformed.”

Journalists who are covering the devastating earthquake in Haiti say they are amazed how the residents of that country are handling their desperate situation. Sorrow in the great loss of life contrasts with the joys of still finding some still alive as they dig through the rubble. In the night darkness those who remain gather outside and sing to avoid the falling debris during aftershocks. The prayer: “That the troubles in Haiti will diminish as we send help and their lives will be filled with hope and joy for the future. More about Haiti’s present day state was given this morning on their CBC radio program, detailing a typical day in Haiti with the people still living in great need. Details regarding the present state of Haiti can be heard again on today's CBCs radio "Sunday Morning Program." date February 14, 2010 www.cbc.ca.

ONIONS - ROAD TO HEALTH - HELP FOR ASTHMA

Forty million people died of the flu in l919. In one area it seemed that every family except one in the community had the flu except one. A doctor took time to ask the lady of the house if she knew why this might be. She said they always kept at least one onion in each room. Sometimes she mounted the onion on a fork and placed it in a glass. Further inquiries showed that people found it helped them avoid flu and colds and relieved asthma.

At times after the war the entire community came down with the flu and there was no one to take care of them and serve them a bowl of soup to help them recover. Settlers from the Ukraine cook with garlic and sometimes made a whole laundry tub of soup with plenty of garlic in it and brought some over to others in the community. They were the ones who recovered.

The doctor decided the onions and garlic absorbed the bacteria. A hairdresser put onions in bowls around her shop and none of her employees came down with flu. Your hairdresser knows. One person put a whole onion each day near a patient who was very ill with flu. In the morning the onions would be black. Apparently the germs are very attracted to the fragrance of the onion.

Another person visited Mullins Food Products and asked their chemist why potato salad often spoiled so fast, especially at picnics. He explained it is best not to keep any leftover onion slices in the refrigerator. Potato salad spoils fast at picnics because of the onions in it, rather than the commercial salad dressing. Home made salad dressing is excluded because its contents are unknown. Cooked onions are a good remedy for all infections and colds. Share with everyone and enjoy the fragrance and good health together.

THE HEAD HUNTERS

Interest in phrenology reached its zenith in the early l800s as scientists became interested in researching the skulls of famous musicians and scientists to determine whether the shape of the skull might be related to their unusual gifts. A recently published book called “Skull Snatchers” gave many details about this era on the morning CBC radio program dated February 10, 2010.
Wolfgang Mozart (1756-1791) was exhumed from his pauper’s grave. A wire had been placed around his neck before burial and his identity was able to be proven. After their skulls were examined most of these people have since been reburied.

Emmanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772) was active in every branch of the physical sciences. He anticipated many later discoveries and inventions including a nebular hypothesis, a molecular theory, and a theory of cosmic atoms. He drew up plans for a submarine and a flying machine. He was a fellow in the Royal Academy of Sciences, and specialized in mineralogy and for more than 30 years was an assessor in the Royal Bureau of Mines. He was able to see things as they happened hundreds of miles away. At one point he was with a large group of people and suddenly told them that a fire was raging through a certain city, and later it was proved to be so. According to my husband’s family, his family name was originally Isaacson but later his name was changed to Swedenborg to honour him. My husband’s grandmother’s family name was Isaacson and it was said that she was a descendant of the Swedenborg family. It is quite possibly true since our son graduated as top student when he received his degree in Science from the University of Victoria and received the gold medal at graduation ceremonies. The skull of Swedenborg was also snatched several times and finally reburied in 1988. Edgar Cayce who died in 1944 was also able to see people who lived hundreds of miles away, diagnose their illness and prescribe a treatment. www.edgarcayce.org.

BODY SYSTEMS LINK TO ESP

People who are emotional partners, friends or in love, show a physical form of ESP between them, although they may be unconscious of it, according to research conducted by Dean Radin Ph.D., of the Institute for Noetic Science, and published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine.

When one partner from a loving couple sees the face of the beloved, for example, the beloved’s brain shows a response, even though the two people are in separate locations. In this study, each person in a pair was seated in a separate, electromagnetically isolated chamber. A video camera was aimed at the person in one room. In the other room, a video monitor in front of the other person could be flipped on to show the image of the person’s lover in the other room. Both had their EEG brain waves monitored during the sessions. At random moments, the monitor would come on, showing the one lover’s face to the other. At those moments, the person seeing evidenced EEG arousal. Within milliseconds the partner’s EEG measured the receiving partner’s same brain arousal.

In a second study, an electrogastrogram (EGG) measured the receiving partner’s intestinal, or gut, response. In a room, the sending partner sat in front of two video monitors. One would be activated at random moments to show the face of the separated lover. Simultaneous with this first monitor, the other one would show either an emotional video clip, with music, or a neutral scene. When viewing the image of the partner’s face, a more active gut response came than when the first person saw the neutral video. The results showed an elevated gut response in the second person associated with the partner’s emotional experience not evident with a neutral video. KEEPING THE CONNECTIONS SMOOTH

“We humans remember the good and bad – our creative influences and destructive influences. As long as we remember wrongs done to us or the way others have wronged us, we continue to feed the bad and in only this way the bad continues,” says Dr. Gladys McGarey, M.D. in one of her regular columns in ‘Venture Inward.’ “If we stop feeding the memories of the hurts and the pain we have sustained, they no longer exist. But the good has within itself the ability to create more goodness. The bad self-destructs; the good self-perpetuates. If we look at this law of cause and effect as hardships to be faced, we continue to perpetuate a difficult and hard life. But if we can understand that really this is a beautiful opportunity we have been given to accentuate the manifestations of the fruits of the spirit – kindness, gentleness, mercy, long-suffering – we will bring peace among humankind.”

“In these interpersonal relationships, we are meeting ourselves in relationships with another person. We are working with our memory of our relationships with another person. Our thoughts are the food upon which the soul feeds. We are continually feeding it negative thoughts, or we are constantly feeding our soul the good creative and healthy thoughts. What we create in the earth plane we must meet in the earth plane, and only those you love may hurt you. All our relationships are part of a pattern and we continually meet ourselves. Each soul pays for its own karma, and no one else’s. If we act according to our ideal in line with the spiritual laws that we know and understand, ideals will grow and be creative in the little things as well as the big as we find different ways of expressing each day. If we criticize and condemn others we are feeding on negative emotions, they grow and if we stop feeding them they dissipate. Only when our thoughts and actions work with peace with our fellow human beings will there be peace.” Venture Inward: 800-333-4499.

HELP YOURSELF TO A HEALTHY HEART

When the heart stops, life is a “no go” so it is time to take action and keep that pump in good repair and Dr. Shealy gives the answer and how to do it. In l975 this neurosurgeon founded the American Holistic Medical Association that is becoming an authority in the alternative medical community and a pioneer in the emerging field of energy medicine. Today’s news updated us on how many billions of dollars Canada’s health system is needlessly spending on treating every symptom as if it were a critical disease and overprescribing invasive tests with their many false positives. He tells why the “PharmacoMafia” is to blame for the exponential increase in prescription drug use today – flooding the airwaves with drug advertisements which create a “need” in the public perception. The effects can be devastating to health and impair the body’s ability to heal itself naturally.

Shealy says, “I believe that many energetic, enthusiastic people can redefine old age, living healthily to 100 years, some to 120 and even to 160 years, just by adding a few simple activities. “I have proof that you can at least restore the three most critical factors which have the potential for optimizing longevity: 1) maintaining DHEA, the most important hormone; 2) Calcitonin, which keeps the skeleton strong; and 3) reducing free radicals, which are the ultimate chemical evidence that the body is being ‘oxidized’ excessively, leading to disease, aging, memory loss and death.”

In his book “Life Beyond 100, Secrets of the Fountain of Youth” Dr. C. Norman Shealy, M.D. Ph.D. gives a scientific program that prescribes daily stress-reduction, called “self-regulation,” normal foods, sexual activity, exercises, selected supplements, easy exercises and no drugs. It is a holistic fountain of health – mental, emotional, and physical. Check with your local library or see your local bookstore Tarcher/Penguin, or order toll free 800-723-1112.

ALBERTA MEMORIES

A short span from Orion town, Still stands a prairie school,
As elements of wisdom’s wealth, were learned with basic tools.
The students now have scattered far to make their mark on time,
School’s wisdom grew, and parents too, as lives were intertwined.
Enroute to school the prairie rose, embraced a winding creek,
From Cypress Hills its waters rushed at close of winter bleak.
To end the game of fox and geese played on the winter’s day,
Chinook winds brought the baseball track to view for recess play.

In June we munched the petals pink from creek’s roseberry patch.
Come fall we hollowed out the hips and ate with great dispatch.
And never did Pakowki School at recess time forget,
The cactus fruits that hid behind protective bayonets.
Although school’s learning works mind’s soil, each plants a seed his own,
To mingle with the purpose that his soul works out alone.
For at those desks we sat again for weekend Sunday school,
Through lives of Frank and Ida Weeks to learn the Golden Rule.

In measuring their daily walk their love shone like a gem,
“As you wish men do to you - do likewise unto them.”
To generations yet unborn, their kindly deeds move on
To light a flame within each heart of love’s melodic song.
In silent moments they return through memory’s fragile chain,
The lessons taught, the wealth they brought, their words will flash again.
To share with every land true joys, this Golden Chain of old
Unseen – those lessons given those years ago, forever will remain.

TROY - ANCIENT CITY OF ASIA MINOR

Did Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey poetry about the ancient city of Troy hold some truth? Did Paris of Troy, the son of King Priam really spirit away the beautiful Helen, wife of King Menelaus of Sparta and lay siege the city of Troy for revenge? He appointed Agamemnon as commander in chief, with Odysseus (Ulysses in Latin), Ajax; Achilles; and Nestor and crossed the Aegean Sea with l00,000 soldiers, and 1200 war galleys. After a 10 year siege (1194-1184) Achilles slew Hector, King Priam’s valiant son and dragged him around the city at the tail of his chariot.

Remember the story about the huge wooden horse built by the Greeks who filled its huge body with armed men. That night the men withdrew to their ships and left one, Sinon, who was taken prisoner. But the Greeks didn’t sail far and waited in the wings. Sinon told the Trojans that the horse was an offering to the goddess Minerva and they could win her good will if they brought the horse in. With much rejoicing for this trophy of war they took the horse into the city. During the night the armed men came out of the wooden horse and opened the gates to the city. The Greeks quickly sailed back and destroyed Troy.

The Homeric poetry (1194-1184) remained a legend to scholars until 1870. In that year Heinrich Schliemann began excavations at the site and new light shone on the Homeric poems. Nine distinct layers, the remains of nine cities – one under the other remained. It was decided that Homer’s Troy was VII, the first phase of the seventh settlement. It was destroyed by fire about the time of the Trojan War. The Persian account as told by Edgar Cayce detailed a flourishing society. When “peace breaks out” in that now volatile land, research will continue, likely around 2012 or 2013.
Menelaus would not see his Queen Helen or his son again. By seeking revenge, he caused 10 years of misery and lost everything.

BIOENERGY - THE NEXT MEDICAL FRONTIER

When Mietek Wirkus was only four years old he asked his parents about the colorful glittering clouds that surrounded both people and animals, but they had no answer for him. When his sister had asthma attacks they would cease with this bioenergy. Everything that happens to a physical body is reflected in its energy flows. A skilled bioenergy practitioner can detect these blocked fields as well as the flows in the body. It is a non-touch technique.

Poland recognized bioenergy therapy as he worked in Polish medical centers along with physicians. It was shown to be beneficial to both the healer and the client. This energy flows through the skeletal structure of the body, through blood circulation, through the nervous system, and through the skin. These energy flows are facilitated by bodywork practices such as massage, chiropractic and acupuncture.

According to Wirkus, “Life has two basic components: the first is biochemical and the other pertains to energy. We are all built from these two components, bio-chemical matter that animates the bodies of humans and animals, an energy that surrounds every cell, extending outside the physical body and serving as a medium for the flow of information through the body. When EEG and EKG (brain and heart activity) cannot be detected, it results in physical death. This relates to the Edgar Cayce information that was first noted on the “black market” in Poland. So much about the Cayce information was decades ahead of the scientific community. Born in 1939 Mietek and his wife Margaret who assists him arrived in the U.S. from Warsaw in l985 and from their base in Washington D.C. give classes for physicians, nurses and other health workers at the non-profit WirkusBioenergy Foundation.

EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL HAS ANTI- INFLAMMATORY BENEFITS

British scientists have discovered that freshly pressed extra-virgin olive oil has anti-inflammatory qualities similar to the non-steroidal compound in the commercial painkiller ibuprofen. Publishing in the journal “Nature,” the researchers named this anti-inflammatory ingredient oleocanthal. They speculated that the health benefits of regular olive oil consumption, as found in the Mediterranean diet, could be attributed to the oleocanthal it contains.

This finding is confirmatory of the Cayce materials. For related Web links or more information, go to: www.creativespirit.net/psiresearch.

OPRAH'S FORMULA ECHOES CAYCE

Listen to your inner voice. Your passion may come as a whisper or serendipitous event that reminds you of what’s important.

Recognize a crisis. Are you spending your time on something you love? Take an opportunity to appraise your happiness. The key to a purposeful life is to feel fulfilled.

Unearth all the things that bring you joy. Dwell in possibilities.

Make the strongest voice in your life be your own. Tune out the voice of the world. Finding your purpose may go against others.

Rather than doing what you want to do, decide what kind of person you want to be. Let that guide your choices.

Find a profession you love and bring your heart to your work. It takes passion and courage. Spend the time to discover that job.

Don’t be afraid to change. Let those experiences steer your course.

It is easy to regret time spent being unhappy or unfulfilled. During that time you developed the skills you need to succeed.

Step out of your comfort zone. Destiny cannot help you until you are willing to step out and begin.

Be patient. Keep your commitment and take small steps to make it happen.

Edgar Cayce passed away in l944 but others like Oprah have picked up the torch and are carrying it to an Olympic win. For related Web links go to: creativespirit.net/psiresearch.

REGISTERED EDUCATION SAVINGS PLAN

An excellent savings plan to consider for the future education needs of our children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren is the Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) because the government adds 20% per cent to it each year. A total of $2,500.00 per child is available for each subscriber every year. When the student is ready for higher education these funds can be accessed. RESPs were not available in my time (in the l940s) and my tuition funds ran out during the fourth year.

Let’s say two of my great-grandchildren are ready for college and I have a total sum available of $30,000.00. But if I had waited until they were about to enter college without realizing I could have added 20 % from the government’s addition that would have made a major difference.

Even so, calculating the $30,000.00 at 04% for two subscribers (the average interest paid on term deposits just before the present depression) there would have been a balance on hand to for the next three years for both subscribers. But thanks to the parents, grandparents or great-grandparents, up to a total of $72,000 can be realized for each subscriber until their age of 17 years.
